Why L.A.’s den.m.bar Chose to Use SalesVu iPad POS System Over Other Solutions

The Company

  • Den.m.bar (dmb) is a custom denim workshop located in the heart of Los Angeles’ Fashion District that creates jeans, ties, clutches, wallets and a variety of denim accessories. Dmb creates tailor-made-to-order denim for men and women using traditional denim craft techniques. Dmb believes that there are three essential components to owning the finest denim: quality material, good fit and personal style. According to den.m.bar Owner Derek Yip, each stitch is stitched for durability and designed to reflect their principles of timeless traditional denim apparel.

“While doing everything by hand takes time and costs a bit more, each piece is crafted with some serious TLC,” said Yip. “ We take pride in our work and because of that, we have the utmost attention to detail on our craftsmanship.”

The Needs

  • A retail POS system was essential for dmb because they needed a way to process credit cards anywhere they go, whether it be events, fairs or pop-up shops.

“Having a mobile POS system helps us tremendously,” said Yip.

The SalesVu Decision

  • When looking into iPad POS solutions, den.m.bar considered SalesVu, Square, Shopkeep, GoPayment and PayPal. Yip said dmb briefly tried to use Square POS but switched to SalesVu when they discovered the depth of features.

“After checking out other POS systems, SalesVu had the best transaction fee pricing, a lot of functions that other systems didn’t offer and most of all, there was no monthly fee if we passed the monthly minimum requirement,” said Yip.

  • Den.m.bar’s favorite aspect of the SalesVu iPad POS is the ability to see and export customer data and sales reports as well as create customized reports.

“The reason why this is important to us is because with more information on hand, we are able to change our strategy and make our business more efficient,” said Yip.

The Results

  • SalesVu has helped dmb by providing a user friendly interface for their sales team.

“SalesVu has streamlined the method of processing orders and made it super easy to gather useful data for market research,” said Yip.

  • Den.m.bar has saved a significant amount of money between not having to pay a monthly fee and having a lower transaction fee.

Vodka on Vacation Anyone? See How our iPad POS System Helps This Michigan Distillery

The Company

Northern Latitudes Distillery (NLD) is a small distillery on the Leelanau Peninsula in Michigan. NLD distills vodkas from wheat; Ice Dunes Vodka and Michigan sugar beet sugar; Deer Camp Vodka; horseradish vodka, Apollo Horseradish Vodka; Limoncello di Leelanau and many more. Almost everything NLD makes will sit in charred American oak barrels for at least 2 years, though some will be bottled immediately and sold as Michigan Dogman Moonshine. In addition to their spirits, NLD sells barware, glassware and logo clothing.

NLD has a 3,000 square foot tasting room boasting a large tasting bar where they give free tastings of their spirits. Additionally, they have a bar where they create unique cocktails using their products.

“We are always creating our own cocktails; it’s fun to research and mix the old-time cocktails that were popular before and during Prohibition, too,” said Owner Mandy Moseler.

The Needs

Northern Latitudes needed a versatile POS system that had the flexibility to be moved around as they change and grow.

“It needs to be used by us literally as we walk around the distillery to take care of our customers quickly so they don’t have to wait in line,” said Moseler.

Lake Leelanau, the home of NLD, is known for its beauty and wineries, making a large portion of NLD’s customer-base vacationers. These customers don’t want to spend their vacation time waiting in line to spend their hard-earned money.

“They want to come into our distillery, enjoy themselves and then be off to the next adventure,” said Moseler. “For us to be able to take care of them quickly and efficiently is super important!”

Also, they need the ability to track inventory easily as that is particularly essential for a new business.

The SalesVu iPad POS Decision

NLD wanted a well-encrypted, easy-to-use system that tracks inventory and sales for a new business in a lean economy; SalesVu met these needs.

“We know right now which spirits are selling quickly and that dictates what Mark [NLD co-owner] will be distilling next,” said Moseler.

Before joining the SalesVu movement, NLD looked into Square and several other POS systems.

The Results

By starting their business with SalesVu’s POS system, NLD saved $6,000 upfront and are able to be mobile and customer-friendly.

SalesVu’s iPad POS System is the Perfect Match for Plumbob Design

official-plumbobdesign-logo-small

Tim Andonian, owner of Plumbob Design, a design build shop in the heart of Silicon Valley, designs unique gifts such as picture frames, engraving and signage and mini blocks, which began as a kickstarter project.

“The mini blocks are made for the desktop for ages three and up,” said Andonian. “Each set is completely unique and contains abstract shapes and different types of wood. They inspire creative play in children while giving them a direct experience of complex weighting and balancing. In the office, they can be used as a stress relief executive toy, or used with work group meetings to aid in creative thinking and collaboration.”

Andonian had used Etsy.com prior to adopting SalesVu and decided to research POS systems, such as Square and Intuit. He needed a POS system and credit card reader that would work with his iPad mini.

“I spent some time just searching the web and weighing feature sets of different software and services,” said Andonian. “The ease of setting up the inventory and product list and credit card reader integration seemed like the only choice. Since I am using Etsy as my online shop, I was primarily looking for a solution for being at markets and shows.”

Andonian needs SalesVu’s retail POS in order to make sales outside his garage where he designs his unique products.

“I aim to participate in Farmers Markets and fairs where I want to have a point of sale,” Andonian said.

When managing Plumbob Design through SalesVu’s iPad POS, Andonian enjoys the ease and straightforwardness of tracking inventory on his iPad. Best of all, he can manage his business from anywhere outside his garage.

“I have a POS anywhere I want,” said Andonian.

SalesVu iPad POS System at Bubble Crunch

554950_430928717001210_1913193322_n

Bubble Crunch (BC) offers Bubble Tea and Asian fusion street food in a casual dining atmosphere. Their goal is to provide fun and delicious food at an affordable price.

“We didn’t need a mobile POS, but we like that we are able to keep our counter space clear and uncluttered so we have room to add merchandise instead,” said Nga Myers, Bubble Crunch owner.

BC found SalesVu when researching POS systems before opening their business. They also considered using Square and Micros.

“We chose SalesVu because the rates were great, the setup cost was minimal (iPad, printer and cash drawer) and it was flexible to meet our needs,” said Myers. “Since we are a restaurant, we need to be able to add modifiers to our orders.”

Myers’ favorite thing about is the customer service and simplicity.

“SalesVu is super easy to use,” said Myers. “I took two minutes to train my employee on opening day and they were able to handle the rush of 150 orders that came in without any issues.”

SalesVu’s Simplicity iPad POS System and Abundance of Features is Key at Blowback Armory

378382_10150445987477544_427898509_n

The Company

Blowback Armory (BA) is an airsoft company that specializes in the most realistic airsoft guns (primarily gas blowback airsoft guns). BA caters guns and parts and does custom work and build services.

“We’re definitely more of a custom shop than any other company, currently,” said Owner John Young. “We also have a vision of bringing a truly realistic, low cost, high safety training solution for tactical force-on-force applications for law enforcement, military and even civilian groups that are interested in doing defense training with a “non-gun” sim weapon.”

BA also does in-house design and manufacturing of some items and hopes to expand with their own line of Made-in-USA “Training Grade” airsoft solutions.

“Of course, we also love supporting the consumer airsoft community as well and offering services that are unheard of in the industry,” said Young.

The Needs

Blowback Armory needed an mPOS solution because they go out to local airsoft games and community events.

“We really didn’t like the idea of having a bulky POS in the shop plus a pseudo mobile POS for events and separate books, etc,” said Young. “We’re fans of simplicity.”

iPad POS Solutions

BA tried Square, SalesVu, an mPOS from their usual merchant service provider and several others but felt that they were doing more work than they needed to be doing. As Young explained, some apps were very expensive — “hundreds or thousands for a turnkey solution.”

SalesVu is the most robust non-purchase retail POS solution that we’ve seen,” said Young. “It really seemed different from the rest of the ‘free’ solutions in that there is a more conventional admin-type interface available online, multiple ways to administer, etc.”

Using SalesVu

  • Young likes how the category system works and that it supports multiple devices.

“The features list is really surprising, seeing as this is a non-purchase app,” said Young.

  • The search feature is very helpful at BA.

“As simple as it sounds, [the search feature] really cuts down on the time needed to search for items in multiple categories,” said Young. “With another solution I used, I had to sift through my items by category. The end result would be excessive lengths of time to ring up a customer, which is kind of counterproductive; faster times at the register means more sales, simple as that.”

The Results

“SalesVu has really simplified the whole POS enigma,” said Young. “POS systems can be very complex, not to mention expensive. With SalesVu, we have a simple, all-in-one solution that we can take anywhere and really use any way we’d like. It’s simple in all the right ways, powerful and feature-rich. It just works!”

  • Blowback Armory was able to save money

“Anyone that’s thought about getting a POS system or iOS-based POS should be well aware the pricing starts in the thousands for one system,” said Young. “We bought an iPad many times cheaper and many times cooler. Plus we can take it with us.”

  • Simplified taxes

“It makes taxes a breeze; I click a few buttons and I’m staring at all the sales I’ve done from web to in-store to an event,” said Young. “It really couldn’t be easier.”

Purlin’ J’s Roving Yarn Co Adopts SalesVu’s iPad POS System

Purlin’ J’s Roving Yarn Co (PJ) is a mobile yarn truck that satisfies the modern knitter’s craving for sumptuous yarns. PJ is just like a gourmet food truck..but with yarn! They sell to inspired knitters at music festivals, studio tours, markets and retreats. Purlin’ J’s is a small-scale, flexible retailer that is responsive to the market.

“The truck, in part, is literally a vehicle to connect the fiber crafting community with local wool producers,” said Owner Joan Sharpe.

Because Sharpe’s business is operated out of a truck, she wanted an iPad POS. She heard about SalesVu through Ravelry, an online knitting community and other local yarn shop owners that recommended it. Sharpe also considered Square when making her decision.

“I chose SalesVu because of the point of sale software and inventory management that comes with it,” said Sharpe. “Now I can easily share my sales and inventory data with my bookkeeper.”

Sharpe uses an iPad and says that her business is made more viable because of this technology.

“I like that I can manage my inventory from anywhere and that the credit card component is very easy to use,” said Sharpe.

SalesVu iPad POS System Role on the Street of Dreams

1016503_10151676555068921_1853527372_nThe Company

  • Street of Dreams (SD) is the original Luxury Home Show in the U.S. and has been running continuously since 1977. It is held in late summer, usually in August, and hosts 60-80,000 attendees.

The Needs

  • SD’s show is held on recently developed land far from the offices. They needed a POS System to track customer ticketing and concession sales.

The SalesVu Decision

  • SD was using a Quicken application residing on a PC.

“We tried to vet every application we could find,” said VP of Finance Mike Maxwell. “We looked at everything in the iTunes app store as well as scouring the web. The decision to use SalesVu was unanimous among those in the process.”

  • SalesVu stood out to Street of Dreams because of its ease of use.

“We had been using another application but were able to eliminate at least 1 step in the sales process that allowed us to process customers more quickly to reduce lines and wait times,” said Maxwell.

The Results

“The overall simplicity allowed us to drop steps in processing the customer,” said Maxwell. “I would also say the learning curve for the staff was super easy and they picked it up with little difficulty, so training time and errors were reduced.”

SalesVu iPad POS System in the Zombie Capital of the World

003

House of the Dead (HD), the world’s only zombie-everything store, is located in Pittsburgh, the “Zombie Capital of the World.” HD thought it was time for Pittsburgh to have a zombie store to service residents’ obsession with the undead. They carry just about everything zombie-related that one could imagine, including: t-shirts and sweats, DVDs, movie poster, comics, books and graphic novels, toys and games, jewelry, artwork, Halloween decorations and makeup.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA 005

An iPad POS was important for HD for two reasons: first, it presented huge savings upfront by not having to purchase a traditional cash register and second, they frequently set up a mobile store at events.

“Having the ability to process sales at these events and see our entire inventory back at the store was a godsend,” said Stu Neft, co-owner of HD.

HD had never used an mPOS prior to adopting SalesVu. When looking into solutions they considered several different systems, including Intuit.

“We chose SalesVu POS System because of its initial low cost and ease of use,” said Neft. “SalesVu’s ease of use allowed us to be up and running a lot more quickly than if we would have had to learn a more complicated system.”

Neft approximated his upfront savings with SalesVu to be between $1,500-5,000. He also saves a significant amount of time bookkeeping thanks to SalesVu’s reporting feature.

“My favorite thing about SalesVu is actually how quickly Tech Support responds to questions,” said Neft.
