THE STARDUST CLUB and BILLIARDS at a Glance

The Company

  • THE STARDUST CLUB and BILLIARDS (SCB), a family owned and operated business since 1996, has set itself apart from the rest of the Austin, Texas social scene. With two full service bars, 16 pool tables, a projection screen TV (along with 17 other screens), live music and karaoke, there is something for everyone to enjoy. In addition to these main attractions, they also provide darts, dominoes, a digital jukebox, shuffle board, video games, touch screen bar tops and liquor catering. STARDUST has daily specials and events that incorporate all of their great features

“We have everything you need to have a great time,” said Owner Joan Castillo.

The Needs

  • Because of her busy schedule, Castillo wanted the ability to see everything related to her business remotely.

“To be able to wake up at my home and pull information from the previous evenings sales and/or reports in my pajamas is great,” said Castillo. “I can do most of my work from my phone or computer without coming into my business.”

  • Prior to adopting SalesVu, SCB was using Casio electronic cash registers. They had a very basic register system, paper inventory and sales reports were done either manually or on a spreadsheet.

The SalesVu Decision

  • Castillo looked into Aloha, POS Nation and Prosperity POS.

“I know several business owners in Austin that use SalesVu and I asked them if they liked the functionality and if it was user friendly; it seemed to fit what I had been looking for in a POS system,” said Castillo.

  • SCB needed inventory control and uniform pricing for all of its bartenders; SalesVu had the necessary features.

“I like the fact that I can be anywhere and adjust a product price, name, marketing tool, read reports and email items to my manager or my CPA,” said Castillo. “I am still finding new things that SalesVu has to offer for me and my business.”

  • SalesVu is user friendly and simple.

“Almost all of my bartenders are younger and use Apple devices, such as iPhones, iPods, iPads and Macs,” said Castillo. “When I looked into this system and its use of Apple products, it was a win-win because I would not have to teach them how to use it.”

  • Castillo liked the remote capabilities.

“I like being able to go into the system and look at a sale or a report at any given time at home, on the road, whatever,” said Castillo.

The Results

  • STARDUST has been able to utilize uniformed pricing and simpler inventory management.
  • The reports have helped save time.

“I can view everything from average sale tickets to quantity of items sold in a day, week or monthly basis, which saves time,” said Castillo.

  • According to Castillo, SCB has saved a minimum of $10,000 by switching to SalesVu iPad POS; including, needing multiple devices, printers and credit card swipers.

“The tech support is priceless! I am able to call them any time of day and get my questions or inquiries answered with a phone call,” said Castillo. “I think they are great!”

Check Out Our Friend, Petaluma Pie Company!

The Company

  • Petaluma Pie Company (PPC) is a small pie shop in downtown Petaluma, California that joined SalesVu in July to cut their business expenses. PPC has served handmade sweet and savory pies (everything from butter scotch cream to cheeseburger pie) using local and organic ingredients since December 2010. PPC not only serves an assortment of pies, but also salad, coffee, tea and beverages, hot chocolate and the occasional cookie. Taking the idea of “farm to table” seriously, they purchase many of their ingredients directly from farmers and other producers.

The Needs

  • PPC Owner Angelo Sacerdote needed the ability to access data quickly and efficiently, such as menu items, sales reports, sales tax information, etc. Prior to joining SalesVu, they used a SAM4S cash register.

“We are a small shop and there is no room for a second POS station and we also don’t have room for lines to form,” said Sacerdote. “SalesVu has given us the ability to add a cash register at a moment’s notice when the store gets busy by picking up an iPod touch and helping the next customer.”

“When it comes time to report our sales tax, it just takes a minute to get the information I need.”

The SalesVu Decision

  • PPC looked into Square, Revel iPad POS, POS Lavu, Shopkeep and Isis POS. However, most POS systems feature a high upfront cost and monthly fee. Additionally with Square, Sacerdote did not want to have to manually enter all menu items and use iTunes to back them up. With SalesVu’s iPad POS, he could use cloud for data entry. Therefore, should something happen to his iPad or iPod, he can add another device and instantly have all of their data on it; thus, be back up and running much quicker.

“This ability to add and sync other devices also means that when we have a big crowd at our shop, the main POS does not have to be a bottleneck. I can just pick up an iPod Touch and ring up the next customer.”

  • According to Sacerdote, the best SalesVu feature is the robust reporting.

“It gives us the ability to track things on a micro and macro level. Being away from the shop and being able to check on things is invaluable,” he said. “Introducing a new product and seeing how well it sells is super helpful. Comparing sales month to month or day to day really gives us a clear idea of how we are doing.”

The Results

  • Petaluma Pie Company spends less on merchant processing now due to SalesVu’s flat rate.

“The flat rate that SalesVu charges is lower and easier to understand,” said Sacerdote.

  • With the SAM4S cash register, they had to run a series of reports daily and save them to a thumb drive. In using those electronic reports, a small error could essentially make the data irretrievable. Also, all files had to be converted to CSV after having someone write the code for it. To track sales over time, Sacerdote then had to manually create “complicated” spreadsheets.

“It was a real nightmare,” he says of the experience. “With SalesVu, it just takes a minute to get any kind of report I need.”

  • Sacerdote claims that SalesVu iPad POS has saved him hours of tedious work dealing with spreadsheets; he has recommended it to many of his customers who are also merchants.

Welcome to SalesVu, Cedar Hill Farm

Great news for SalesVu! Cedar Hill Farm (CHF) has adopted our POS system!

CHF is located in Love, Mississippi, just minutes south of Memphis, Tennessee. They are a family owned and operated farm that opened to the public in 1996. Cedar Hill Farm offers a relaxing and fun-filled day on the farm for tourists, school field trips, company picnics and anyone else looking to enjoy the peaceful country life and learn the ways of the farm. While at CHF, one can take a tractor drawn hayride, go on strawberry and Easter egg hunts, pick blackberries and blueberries, visit the pumpkin patch and corn maze, cut down Christmas trees, fish in a private pond or play one of the many available games (i.e. horseshoes, paintball, volleyball). There are several activities and attractions that cater to children’s interests such as: the petting zoo, train rides, the animated chicken show, pony rides and play areas. Cedar Hill Farm is not only open to the public but also for reservations for private parties, corporate events, family reunions, weddings, receptions and birthday parties.

CHF operates snack and produce stands as well as event admissions over a large, spread out farm area, giving them the need for an iPad POS solution. They looked at several solutions including Square and PayPal before making the SalesVu decision.

“We chose SalesVu because of the reviews of good customer support, downloaded the free app and compared it to Square; SalesVu is superior in every way,” said Owner Robert Foster. “Square has terrible customer service, terrible.”

Foster also said SalesVu is great for CHF because it is not practical to run phone lines to all of the farm’s areas, especially since many are only used seasonally. Because of this, Cedar Hill Farm’s favorite thing about the SalesVu iPad POS system is that it is portable, wireless and user friendly.

Zion Outback Safaris Joins SalesVu!

Welcome to SalesVu, Zion Outback Safaris!

Zion Outback Safaris (ZOS) gives guided tours on the back roads surrounding Zion National Park in customized off-road safari-type vehicles and modified jeeps. Owner Larry Pugh says ZOS needed a POS System to accommodate his virtual office; they often also make last minute in-person reservations paid by credit card. Pugh saw the SalesVu iPad POS being used in a coffee shop and decided to use it over Square and Quickbooks because it is user friendly, programmable and has a flat fee for all keyed transactions.

So far Pugh’s favorite thing about SalesVu is the simplicity of the setup process and how “intuitive” the programming is. We’re so glad you joined SalesVu and can’t wait to help you run your safari business!

SalesVu Customer Spotlight: The Lilly Pad Village

The Company

  • The Lilly Pad Village (TLPV) is located in Blue Ridge, Georgia, about an hour and a half from both Atlanta and Chattanooga by car. They started as a quaint coffee shop and evolved into a premier destination spot for gem mining, miniature golf, fishing and hiking. The Lilly Pad serves over 25,000 customers annually.

The Needs

  • As The Lilly Pad Village grew, so did their merchandise, customers and employees; this brought on the need to simplify operations.

“Like any other business experiencing exponential growth, we also have our growing pains, trials and errors,” said Geza Csuros, TLPV owner. “For years, all of our activities and merchandise were handled at one single counter with a $65.00 cash register. Bookkeeping and reporting were relatively easy and managed by the two owners operating the business.”

  • Increased merchandising required a POS system that could offer inventory control; more employees brought on the need to track hours and with the expansion of activities and increased sales came the need to streamline reporting and accounting.
  • TLPV needed a portable POS system, which synchronized and afforded a central reporting capability.

“Our activities take place at a different site on our property and in our pre-SalesVu era, that required customers to check in at our office, make their purchases and head out to their activities,” said Csuros. “We were actually missing sales and if the customer wished to make another purchase, they then had to head back to the office to pay before returning to their activity.”

The SalesVu Decision

  • The Lilly Pad Village looked at many different POS systems. According to Csuros, most offered great solutions and were affordable and flexible enough for their needs, but lacked one thing: they were PC based.
  • TLPV also looked at Square and PayPal’s systems, but neither one had the capability to address all of their requirements as SalesVu does.

The Results

  • TLPV currently uses an iPad POS system at their main office/shop and has iPhone systems set up at their satellite activity spots. This allowed them to also set up “gift shops” at the activity locations but more importantly they can now accept credit cards>/font> on the fly.

“At the end of the day, it is a simple five-minute operation to synchronize sales, check employee hours and look at our inventory,” said Csuros. “We also sell some consignment items – SalesVu is a great asset in helping us keep track!”

  • The Lilly Pad Village also offers online ticket sales. Prior to using SalesVu, they paid 3% to a company that allowed online ticket sales plus 3.5% to PayPal. SalesVu allows incorporating and selling your inventory — or tickets, in TLPV’s case — on your own website.

“Integration is easy and the final cost to us is only a 2.7% flat fee,” said Csuros.

  • Additionally, SalesVu is free. TLPV chose to use SalesVu’s merchant services, Mercury Payment, as it was more convenient. You can still use your existing credit card processing if you wish, but The Lilly Pad found they saved money by switching to Mercury, even after paying the $300 contract cancellation fee to their previous provider. The percentage charged by Mercury is actually slightly higher than their previous provider, but that is all you pay.

“Our previous provider “penny-and-dimed” us each month with one fee or another added to their bill (close to $100 each month),” said Csuros. “We pay 2.7% flat; with NO cancellation fee should we decide to terminate our account.”
