The 4 Best Free POS-Enhancing Apps that Coffee Shop Owners Should Know About

Coffee-shop operators have a lot on their plates. They’re serving a high volume of frequently complicated and specialized drink orders in a fast-paced environment, doing everything they can to provide exceptional customer service in a competitive niche — and also trying to operate in the black. Having the right POS system can make achieving those objectives easier. Here are four of the best free POS apps that enhance functionality for coffee shops.

  1. Incoming: Kitchen Display System App

If you have a kitchen display system (KDS) — and you probably should since it has many advantages over paper ticket systems — then one of the best free POS apps to consider is Incoming. This app allows you to view and manage orders placed from any source. Going paperless not only reduces cost (and waste) of ink and paper, but also improves order accuracy. It also streamlines prep times by sending the order elements to the appropriate stations, such as the espresso machine or the pastry counter, for speedier fulfillment.

  1. OrderUp: Self-Service Kiosk App

OrderUp is a free POS app that turns an iPad into a self-service kiosk — which has many benefits, especially for businesses like coffee shops where the orders are highly customizable and specific. With self-ordering, customers place all of their requests directly into the system, which greatly reduces the chance that some element will be overlooked or miscommunicated. That venti, low-fat, half-caf, triple-shot, iced caramel macchiato needs to be served just as ordered to ensure customer satisfaction. Plus, patrons placing their own orders tend to include more add-ons and extra items, increasing overall ticket sizes. And self-service kiosks can bust lines at the counter, so busy morning rush-hour commuters can get those caffeine fixes quickly and get to work.

  1. VIPz: Group Coupons App

For group-based discounts and special deals, one of the best free POS apps is VIPz, similar to Groupon — but it won’t cost half of your profits. You can use VIPz to introduce your coffee shop to new customers and bring in new business. This app also lets you create offers that are valid during slower periods of the day/week/month, to help maintain a steadier flow of revenue.

  1. Regulars: Loyalty Rewards Program App

Coffee shops have a particularly high potential for earning repeat business, as commuters make your stop a part of their regular morning routine. Another incentive that will increase this likelihood (besides quality products and great service) is a loyalty rewards program. Regulars is one of the best free POS apps that help you set up and manage a rewards program based on purchase amounts.  It’s easy to track balances and redeem rewards. Loyalty programs forge a personal bond with your customers and make them feel that you value their business — which makes them want to keep coming back.

Bonus: Your Own Shop-Branded Ordering App for Smartphones

In addition to providing these free POS apps, SalesVu can help you create a brand-specific app and modern-looking online ordering website so your customers can place orders on their smartphones and computers. This provides greater convenience for your customers, and increased revenue for you. You may not be a giant franchise like Starbuck’s, but you can look just as professional and tech savvy as your big competitors.

These best, free POS apps are available from a single provider, one that offers round-the-clock customer support every day. SalesVu’s apps all integrate with Square Register and other POS systems to provide the add-on functionalities that coffee shops need most. 5 Reasons Full-Service Restaurants Need to Set Up a Self-Service Kiosk

The evolution and increased availability of technology has led to high consumer expectations of convenience and personalization in their dining experiences. Self-service kiosks, which have risen steadily in popularity in recent years, are a prime example of how to meet those standards. Self-service isn’t just for fast-food places or QSRs; full-service restaurants can benefit from it as well. Here’s how.

  1. Optimize Labor

Full-service restaurants can use self-service kiosks to streamline the processing of to-go meals. Orders are transmitted directly from the customer to the kitchen, eliminating the need for a front-of-house middleman. Those staff members can be reallocated to focus on dine-in customers or to help the kitchen prepare the to-go orders faster, providing a better experience for all customers.

Full-service restaurants can also place self-service iPads at each table so that guests can start ordering drinks and appetizers without having to wait for the availability of their server. This streamlining not only gives servers more time to provide personalized attention but also speeds up table turnover, thereby increasing revenue.

  1. Increase Order Accuracy

Restaurant self-service kiosks greatly improve order accuracy, so your staff won’t be wasting time and food on rejected orders. The kitchen gets the order information straight from the customer, virtually eliminating potential server miscommunication or misread tickets. With the visual prompts, customers can see images of exactly what they’re ordering and have the opportunity to review and check their orders before submitting. They can customize the entire meal to their specifications, increasing overall satisfaction with their experience.

  1. Enhance Customer Experience

While restaurant self-service kiosks are especially popular with millennials, who appreciate and are accustomed to the convenience afforded by technology, older generations can find reasons to appreciate the experience as well. Streamlined ordering expedites the food preparation process, so diners get their food faster. And they can have greater confidence that they’re getting exactly what they wanted, since they customized their own choices based on clear visual imagery. Finally, the social aspect of dining out is actually improved, because when servers don’t have to be running orders back and forth from the kitchen, they have more time to interact with their guests (which can lead to better tips for them as well).

  1. Increase Ticket Sizes

One of the biggest benefits of self-service kiosks for full-service restaurants is the increase in revenue. As more restaurants and franchises adopt self-service, results consistently show that when customers place their own orders, ticket sizes increase. According to an article in the Harvard Business Review, when Taco Bell introduced its digital app in 2015, orders placed through it averaged 20% higher than orders placed with human cashiers. In 2014, The Atlantic reported that when Chili’s introduced tabletop tablets, dessert orders rose 20% (perhaps, as the article suggests, because diners don’t feel they are potentially being judged by the server for what they’re ordering). And in 2018, Australian chain Hog’s Express claimed their average spend per person rose a whopping 30-37% with self-service kiosks.

What drives these increases? For one thing, the graphical interface of a self-service kiosk provides appealing images of the food to whet diners’ appetites. Customers can also access lists of specials or other items they might miss on a regular menu or the specials board they pass by on their way in. Finally, guests placing their own orders tend to select additional ingredients or extra add-ons when prompted by the upselling features built into the self-service software. Restaurants no longer have to rely on their employees remembering to upsell consistently, because it’s automatic — and it works. Those extra toppings, sides, drinks, and combos add up.

  1. Anticipate the Future of Dining

The new normal for consumers can be summed up in two words: convenience and automation.  Consumers can hail a ride in self-driving cars through Lyft or Uber, they can go to cashierless stores, such as Amazon Go, and even have drones deliver packages right to their doorstep. Sooner or later, they will begin to expect the same convenience and automation in their dining experiences.  We are not far off from having serverless restaurants where diners view the menu, place their own orders and pay their bill all via a device on the table. Quite a few restaurants across the United States are already testing this new experience or implementing a hybrid method that employs waitstaff who are ready on the sidelines and available upon request.

Don’t fall behind.  Stay a step ahead of your competition by offering menus on iPad devices at your tables, rather than old-fashioned printed paper menus, in order to provide more information to your diners about the ingredients in each meal and the history of each dish. The menu should be an integral part of the dining experience. After your customers begin to get accustomed to reviewing your menu via iPad, begin to add “order” buttons next to each dish to streamline the ordering process by sending your customers’ orders immediately to the kitchen.

For all of these reasons, restaurant self-service kiosks provide a healthy return on investment. Discover how SalesVu can help you quickly and easily implement a self-service solution.

Learn more about how The Tea Trolley has been using SalesVu POS system: Gift Card solution for the Holiday season!

The Tea Trolley offers a variety of teas that you can enjoy with their delicious homemade desserts, scones and sandwiches; they also own a gift shop where you can get some beautiful merchandise. This tearoom is characterized by their gorgeous location which is a restored Victorian house in Delta, Pennsylvania. Business owner, Rachael Cox, sat with us and told us her story with the software and how some SalesVu modules have helped her business.

QuickBooks was the first point of sale system that she tried, the reason for a change was to get rid of the paperwork and find a POS software that was able to add gratuity in an easy way. Rachael started her journey with SalesVu 3 years ago and discovered that that system had great gift cards, inventory and tip/gratuity capabilities.

‘The biggest thing that SalesVu has helped us with are Gift Cards, we weren’t able to do that before and we were using paper certificates. Our guests like to buy the physical cards and they can also get them online’ – The Tea Trolley

The greatest advantage that the staff noticed was that you can scan a gift card to sell it and redeem it. Balances deduct automatically and are saved on the back end for reporting and controlling purposes. With the physical gift cards, you can add the receiver on the POS right away, or if you prefer the online version, you can send it by email, on that email there will be a unique code that customers can later redeem in the business. Rachael decided to implement this feature about a year ago for the Holiday season and she has definitely seen a moderate increase in sales ever since.

Another module that has been very helpful for the retail side of the business, is the inventory module. They mainly use it to see the products that they have on stock and to check the cost of inventory and profitability of their merchandise. In addition, they use this module to create purchase orders and send them to their vendors. This particular feature has eliminated the use of paper and spreadsheets and it is integrated with software. After creating the PO, she is able to receive it right from the web portal, inventory updates automatically and a report for open and closed orders is available.

SalesVu has proved to be an all-in-one management solution for this fantastic tearoom! If you want to have the experience of an afternoon tea, go ahead and check their place, you’ll definitely have a wonderful evening with their lovely staff. Follow them on social media below!

Learn more about Living the Dream Brewing Co 4 years of experience with SalesVu POS system!

Based in Littleton, Colorado, Living the Dream Brewing Co. produces craft beer on site to serve on their taprooms and sell it on the market . They also offer a large variety of merchandise, including accessories, women’s, men’s and unisex clothing available in different colors and sizes. Jason Bell was very excited to share with us his experience throughout SalesVu and how it has helped manage the brewery.

Business opened their doors back in 2013, they started using SalesVu right away because at that time it was the best software that suit their needs, the features fit perfectly for the business and the best part is that the price was very affordable. It was very important for Jason to choose a software that was iPad and cloud based, but most important the flexibility that the system provides, access to all of their information from any device at anytime it’s a really great feature to have.

‘SalesVu has definitely helped us with everything. It allowed us to have a point of sale system when we opened and now that we’ve been expanding we can add more iPads to make the workflow run smoother’.
– Jason Bell

The three modules that Living the Dream Brewing Co uses on a daily basis are POS, inventory and gift cards. They were able to switch from paper gift certificates to physical gift cards, the greatest advantage of this is the fact that they can keep track of all the numbers, balances and recharge history using the system. To redeem or sell gift cards they can just simply scan them with the iPad’s camera or enter the number manually. This change was very convenient for them and made their management life easier in every aspect.

POS and Inventory are 2 modules that get along really well, Jason told us that sometimes they have events where they sell their merchandise and retail items, all the products and different matrixes that are uploaded into the system can also be tracked under the inventory feature. They are always in control of what’s selling and which items need to be reordered.

The Living the Dream Brewing Co. staff couldn’t be happier with SalesVu, they have a system that’s economical, works pretty well and adjust to their needs right away. Next time you’re visiting Colorado, take time to visit them and try their craft beers and merchandise, this place is 10% pet friendly! Check their newest updates below!

Three main features for Jojo’s Jerky: POS system, Inventory and CRM!

Hans Hippert is the proud business owner of Jojo’s Jerky, he started doing jerkies as a hobby and experimenting with all kind of different flavors. His passion leaded him to found his business in 2004, located in Las Vegas Nevada. Jojo’s Jerky is a food manufacturer, they make all fresh, all natural jerkies, fat free and non-GMO. Besides his principal product, he also has another line for seasonings, nut sacks and hot sauces. His business model is 100% sustainable, all the ideas for the different products come with sustainability in mind. Every single product is made with natural ingredients with no preservatives. Hans owns three locations and he’s a wholesaler for whole foods, craft house brewery, and different retailers.

‘Without SalesVu we couldn’t grow as much as we can, they have been really cool with us and very supportive. Tech support has always been great and responsive’ – Hippert

He decided to start using SalesVu four years ago, he based his decision on level of functionalities, necessary tools and cost efficiency. He’s been a happy customer ever since. The modules that he uses the most are POS, CRM and Inventory Management.

With the mobile POS he can accept payments in all of his stores but also, he is able to go to any event and sell his products offsite. The reports that come with this module are extremely easy to see at any time and from any device. In addition, he receives weekly sales reports via email.

Hans defines the CRM module as one of the best tools to keep track of his customers, especially because he needs to store the email of his clients to follow up with them. In this module, there’s an email marketing feature that allows him to send emails with any news, promotions, specials, and he can target those emails to specific groups of customers. The best part about the CRM is the purchase history, he can keep track of what their customers ordered, the specific products and date and time.

Inventory tracking is a crucial module for him, with the access levels or permissions that he sets on the employee module, he is able to manage theft or loss prevention. Besides that, creating purchase orders is fantastic, especially because he creates them from the web portal, they’re sent automatically to the vendor and when receiving them, the inventory updates in real time. The Inventory adjustment report is great when he wants to check which items or limited-edition products are available in which store, it is time saving and he can check them remotely.
One key factor that helps Jojo’s Jerky grow constantly is having the right software solution. SalesVu provides the perfect tools at a very affordable price for Hans to take care of his business. How to Increase Employee Satisfaction and Productivity with SalesVu Employee Scheduling

Happy-office-workers-sized

A happy employee is a productive employee. When your staff is happy, they are able to better meet your business needs, provide customers with an exceptional experience, and are more willing to go the extra mile. This can improve both customer and employee retention and loyalty.

Train Them Well

Properly training employees is an important step in getting them more engaged and interested in what they’re doing. Your workforce should know how to explain every product in your inventory, so that they can successfully answer questions and upsell products to customers. When your employees know the products well, they can promptly inform customers of how different products can benefit their lives, which is the first step to making a compelling sales pitch.

Engage Your Workers

Get your workers engaged. Let them call some of the shots, encourage their suggestions, and find other ways to get them more interested in their work. Encourage them to interact with customers more. Not only does this help pass the workday more quickly, but it also helps foster a better relationship between the customer and your employee, leading to more customer and employee retention.

Ask for Feedback

If there is something bothering an employee, they aren’t as satisfied or productive. Keep an open line of communication with your workforce so that they feel comfortable addressing issues of concern or room for improvement. They may have unique suggestions to help your business, and will feel like they are being heard and understood.

Reward Employees for a Job Well Done

Have fun challenges and reward incentives for employees to look forward to. Rewarding employees doesn’t always have to cost money, but offering prizes offers added incentives for employees to sell more and increase their productivity. Even a word of encouragement can go a long way. Recognize their contributions, encourage their helpfulness, offer positive feedback and constructive criticism, and let them know that they are appreciated and are making a difference. They will be more inclined to work harder and take more pride in their work.

Mandatory Breaks

Taking a break during the workday is every employee’s right. But it’s more than just that. It’s their time to break away from the stress of work to clear their head, refocus their priorities, and return to the workday refreshed, ready to face the work ahead, and more productive.

Get a POS System

With a POS system, your employees can do things like answer questions, make upsell recommendations, and even ring up sales from anywhere around the store or restaurant. This intuitive software can allow you to take your business with you, so your workforce can access business operations and reporting all from their tablet or mobile phone.

You can also take advantage of employee scheduling and management software, which can help you quickly find discrepancies and trends among your workforce. To begin making better business decisions, increasing productivity, and simplifying your business operations, contact SalesVu about our all-in-one business management solution.
