DePuma’s Gluten Free Pasta Now Using SalesVu’s iPad POS System

DePuma’s Gluten Free Pasta (DGFP) is a family owned business that offers premium pastas to customers with dietary restrictions and those who want to live a gluten/wheat-free lifestyle.

DGFP was using Intuit when one of their customers that owns a bakery told them about the SalesVu retail POS. Before switching they also considered Square and GoPayment. SalesVu stood out because they felt the POS system offered the best fixed rate.

“Having the same rate for either swiped or manual was key for us,” said Owner John DePuma.

DePuma’s needed an iPad POS because they often go to vendor events to sell pastas and want the ability to offer credit cards as a payment method for customers. Now, the convenience of a mobile sale at the shop is easy.

“We love the user friendly website where we can add products and inventory with no issues,” said DePuma. “Creating a sale is so fast and we can print a receipt within seconds!”

SalesVu iPad POS System at Rolling Hot!

Rolling Hot (RH) is a mobile food service vendor that sells hot dogs from a cart. RH goes to events such as craft fairs, flea markets and farmer’s markets. Owner John Rhoades heard about SalesVu iPad POS on a weekly web podcast hosted by an entrepreneur who manufactures carts and advises future vendors. He had heard business owners, including the host, rave about SalesVu’s features. Rhoades had also looked into Square, but could not come to terms with them as he could SalesVu.

“I need a POS system because I am not in a ‘brick and mortar’ business with a landline for using a sales terminal,” said Rhoades. “The ability to use my smartphone with a card reader means that I can process payments using 4G or WiFi.”

Rhoades is looking forward to using SalesVu’s restaurant POS features to track sales, inventory and “just play around” with all that SalesVu iPad POS has to offer.

SalesVu’s iPad POS System Provides Mason City Brewing with Unmatched Inventory Tracking and Reporting

The Company

Mason City Brewing (MCB) is Mason City, Iowa’s first brewery in over 130 years. MCB operates with a 1 BBL brew system and has a 24 BBL fermentation capacity. The onsite taproom seats 65 people and features eight of MCB’s beers on tap at all times.

“We focus on brewing a range of styles that will satisfy everyone from the craft beer novice to professionals,” said Owner Justin Merritt.

The Needs

MCB needed a POS system that was flexible enough to support their business and wouldn’t tie them down to a “traditional-style register” as they will be participating in events outside the taproom.

The SalesVu Decision

Before adopting SalesVu’s iPad POS, MCB looked at Intuit GoPayment, Square, Intuit POS, LightSpeed and Prosperity. They also demoed traditional POS systems before they “found and fell in love with the simplicity of SalesVu.”

“Ultimately, we chose SalesVu’s restaurant POS because it allowed us to create our own menu structure and item setup, provided some of the market’s lowest fees and offered the best online management options,” said Merritt.

MCB’s favorite thing about SalesVu is the ability to track the ounces of beer sold by beer type. As a brewery, this helps them create a production plan and provides MCB with the information they need to calculate taxes owed.

“We needed an iPad POS solution that provided this ability in the easiest way possible for the bartender, so that he wouldn’t fumble with the register rather than serve customers,” said Merritt. “SalesVu gave us just this with the ability to create different product levels and attach components to those levels. Selling a beer is as easy as two taps of the finger and we get all the tracking data we need on the backend.”

Another important feature that influenced the SalesVu decision is the ability to run tabs. According to MCB, SalesVu is one of the only retail POS applications they found that allows you to keep multiple orders open at a time and authorize a credit card on the order, this way, the business doesn’t have to hold on to the customer’s card.

“This helps immensely because we can offer our customers the convenience of running a tab (giving the customer the peace of mind of not leaving their credit card with a stranger) and comforts the business as they won’t have to eat any tabs left open,” said Merritt.

The Results

SalesVu has helped Mason City Brewing simplify in-store checkout and the order management process; it also has provided a level of sales reporting that they didn’t think they would be able to get.

”It allows us to understand which of our eight beers are in the highest demand and get a sense for the reception of new beers when we launch them,” said Merritt.

According to Merritt, MCB has saved thousands of dollars by adopting SalesVu.

“We save with every transaction when compared to Intuit GoPayment or Square and we saved significant costs upfront when compared to more traditional POS solutions like Intuit POS, LightSpeed or Prosperity.

Lastly, since SalesVu gives MCB all the reporting they need, they were able to simplify their accounting and record just the total sales and total inventory change into Quickbooks (using Quickbooks online without the SalesVu integration).

“SalesVu eliminated the need for a complicated Quickbooks setup and having all the detailed data in Quickbooks,” said Merritt.

Thanks For Using SalesVu iPad POS System, Cool Beans Coffee!

Cool Beans Coffee (CBC) has just joined the SalesVu community! CBC is a brand new, locally-owned coffee shop in Norman, Oklahoma. CBC is a modern and jazzy drive-through shop that uses locally roasted Elemental Roasters coffee beans.

“We plan to bring gourmet coffee to the city of Norman in a friendly and efficient manner,” said Owner Nicki Tribble.

Due to their own positive experience, Elemental Roasters recommended SalesVu’s iPad POS solution to Cool Beans. CBC had also looked into Square and Intuit for their new business. Tribble not only liked SalesVu’s rates and timely customer service, but also their money is deposited within 24 hours of a sale.

THE STARDUST CLUB and BILLIARDS at a Glance

The Company

  • THE STARDUST CLUB and BILLIARDS (SCB), a family owned and operated business since 1996, has set itself apart from the rest of the Austin, Texas social scene. With two full service bars, 16 pool tables, a projection screen TV (along with 17 other screens), live music and karaoke, there is something for everyone to enjoy. In addition to these main attractions, they also provide darts, dominoes, a digital jukebox, shuffle board, video games, touch screen bar tops and liquor catering. STARDUST has daily specials and events that incorporate all of their great features

“We have everything you need to have a great time,” said Owner Joan Castillo.

The Needs

  • Because of her busy schedule, Castillo wanted the ability to see everything related to her business remotely.

“To be able to wake up at my home and pull information from the previous evenings sales and/or reports in my pajamas is great,” said Castillo. “I can do most of my work from my phone or computer without coming into my business.”

  • Prior to adopting SalesVu, SCB was using Casio electronic cash registers. They had a very basic register system, paper inventory and sales reports were done either manually or on a spreadsheet.

The SalesVu Decision

  • Castillo looked into Aloha, POS Nation and Prosperity POS.

“I know several business owners in Austin that use SalesVu and I asked them if they liked the functionality and if it was user friendly; it seemed to fit what I had been looking for in a POS system,” said Castillo.

  • SCB needed inventory control and uniform pricing for all of its bartenders; SalesVu had the necessary features.

“I like the fact that I can be anywhere and adjust a product price, name, marketing tool, read reports and email items to my manager or my CPA,” said Castillo. “I am still finding new things that SalesVu has to offer for me and my business.”

  • SalesVu is user friendly and simple.

“Almost all of my bartenders are younger and use Apple devices, such as iPhones, iPods, iPads and Macs,” said Castillo. “When I looked into this system and its use of Apple products, it was a win-win because I would not have to teach them how to use it.”

  • Castillo liked the remote capabilities.

“I like being able to go into the system and look at a sale or a report at any given time at home, on the road, whatever,” said Castillo.

The Results

  • STARDUST has been able to utilize uniformed pricing and simpler inventory management.
  • The reports have helped save time.

“I can view everything from average sale tickets to quantity of items sold in a day, week or monthly basis, which saves time,” said Castillo.

  • According to Castillo, SCB has saved a minimum of $10,000 by switching to SalesVu iPad POS; including, needing multiple devices, printers and credit card swipers.

“The tech support is priceless! I am able to call them any time of day and get my questions or inquiries answered with a phone call,” said Castillo. “I think they are great!”

Check Out Our Friend, Petaluma Pie Company!

The Company

  • Petaluma Pie Company (PPC) is a small pie shop in downtown Petaluma, California that joined SalesVu in July to cut their business expenses. PPC has served handmade sweet and savory pies (everything from butter scotch cream to cheeseburger pie) using local and organic ingredients since December 2010. PPC not only serves an assortment of pies, but also salad, coffee, tea and beverages, hot chocolate and the occasional cookie. Taking the idea of “farm to table” seriously, they purchase many of their ingredients directly from farmers and other producers.

The Needs

  • PPC Owner Angelo Sacerdote needed the ability to access data quickly and efficiently, such as menu items, sales reports, sales tax information, etc. Prior to joining SalesVu, they used a SAM4S cash register.

“We are a small shop and there is no room for a second POS station and we also don’t have room for lines to form,” said Sacerdote. “SalesVu has given us the ability to add a cash register at a moment’s notice when the store gets busy by picking up an iPod touch and helping the next customer.”

“When it comes time to report our sales tax, it just takes a minute to get the information I need.”

The SalesVu Decision

  • PPC looked into Square, Revel iPad POS, POS Lavu, Shopkeep and Isis POS. However, most POS systems feature a high upfront cost and monthly fee. Additionally with Square, Sacerdote did not want to have to manually enter all menu items and use iTunes to back them up. With SalesVu’s iPad POS, he could use cloud for data entry. Therefore, should something happen to his iPad or iPod, he can add another device and instantly have all of their data on it; thus, be back up and running much quicker.

“This ability to add and sync other devices also means that when we have a big crowd at our shop, the main POS does not have to be a bottleneck. I can just pick up an iPod Touch and ring up the next customer.”

  • According to Sacerdote, the best SalesVu feature is the robust reporting.

“It gives us the ability to track things on a micro and macro level. Being away from the shop and being able to check on things is invaluable,” he said. “Introducing a new product and seeing how well it sells is super helpful. Comparing sales month to month or day to day really gives us a clear idea of how we are doing.”

The Results

  • Petaluma Pie Company spends less on merchant processing now due to SalesVu’s flat rate.

“The flat rate that SalesVu charges is lower and easier to understand,” said Sacerdote.

  • With the SAM4S cash register, they had to run a series of reports daily and save them to a thumb drive. In using those electronic reports, a small error could essentially make the data irretrievable. Also, all files had to be converted to CSV after having someone write the code for it. To track sales over time, Sacerdote then had to manually create “complicated” spreadsheets.

“It was a real nightmare,” he says of the experience. “With SalesVu, it just takes a minute to get any kind of report I need.”

  • Sacerdote claims that SalesVu iPad POS has saved him hours of tedious work dealing with spreadsheets; he has recommended it to many of his customers who are also merchants.

Welcome to SalesVu, Freedom a la Cart!

Freedom a la Cart (FC), a non-profit Doma workforce development program for survivors of human trafficking, has just joined SalesVu. FC provides transferable skills, training and an employment history for survivors, as employment is the key to their long-term stability. They started as a small push-cart business and have grown to include event catering, “Out of the Box” boxed lunches and will be opening an underground dinner club next month. FC is also opening in the Kinneary Federal Courthouse in downtown Columbus, Ohio to serve 5 days a week.

Freedom a la Cart serves their food from a cart in various locations, creating a need for an iPad POS. FC previously used both Square and PayPal but turned to SalesVu POS System because of the additional functions. According to Director of Operations Phil Washburn, they needed inexpensive inventory and employee management as well as a web-based ordering system to duplicate as Freedom a la Cart grows.

We wish the best of luck to Freedom a la Cart on their road to empowering women! Thank you for choosing SalesVu iPad POS!
